Living with a Host Family

Most IIE students live with American families. If additional families are available, LCSC students may apply. Many students have had a wonderful experience living with an American family. Some host families correspond regularly with students who lived in their homes as long as 15 years ago. Others have visited their former students in their home countries. Students come from all over the United States and from even further to visit their American "moms and dads." What better way to learn about America than to become a part of an American family?

Currently the cost for homestay is $460 per month, plus a $100 non-refundable placement fee.

For more information visit our Frequently Asked Questions page.

Students are sometimes surprised at the different kinds of families here. Your host family may be an older woman living alone, a childless couple, a single parent with children, a traditional family with husband, wife and children, or some other kind of family.

Americans do not traditionally invite strangers to live in their homes. These host families have made a special effort to find a place for a student in their homes and in their lives. We try very hard to match students’ interests to those of their host families.

Host families provide food for three meals a day (usually dinner is a family meal), a single room, laundry facilities, transportation to and from school (if the home is more than a mile away) and a priceless opportunity to practice English and learn about American life.
