Coyotes Hold On for 10-9 Win Over Warriors
LEWISTON,ID--Albertson College used a seven-run first inning and held off Lewis-Clark State in the ninth for a 10-9 NAIA Region I baseball win, Saturday night, at Harris Field.
Josh Orr had the big hit in the first inning for Albertson (27-13) as he belted a grand slam off of Warrior starter J.R. Crider (6-1). The Coyotes would then tack on three more runs in the next two innings to take a 10-4 lead. Cory Cloud would score the eventual game winning run in the third when Lewis-Clark State (35-10) reliever Mike Chavez balked him home.
Chris Rennaker (7-1) got his second win in three days against the Warriors. Nick Williams spelled him in the ninth to pick up his second save.
Chavez tossed a superb eight innings in relief, striking out a career-high eleven batters, while throwing an amazing 139 pitches.
Matt Hellman hit his fourth home run of the season, a two-run shot in the second, and Trevor Brown roped his seventh homer of the season, also a two-run job, deep over the center field fence.
The same two teams will go at it for the final of this regular season, Sunday, April 15th, at 1:00 p.m.
