Warriors Rout Bearcats, 21-1
LEWISTON,ID--Lewis-Clark State pounded out 19 hits and plated 21 runs in issuing a 21-1 rout over Willamette University in the opening game of the Happy Day Corporation Tournament, Friday night, at Harris Field.
A seven-run outburst in the second and an 11-run eighth to go along with three pitchers splitting time on the hill led the second-ranked Warriors (38-10) to victory. Matt Hellman kept his hitting streak alive, now at 20 games, by going 3-for-6, two of those being doubles. Mike Madrid collected two singles and three RBI as every LCSC starter had at least one hit, except Kurt Koshelnik who walked three times. Gabe Stajduhar ripped his third home run of the season, in the early part of that eighth inning.
Six different Bearcats (22-10) collected hits. Brad Ferrin went 1.2 innings, giving up nine runs, all earned, and nine hits.
Chris Mabeus (7-0) earned the victory for the Warriors, going three innings, surrendering only two hits. Nick Gravelle pitched the final three innings to pick up his first save.
The Happy Day Corporation Tournament continues tomorrow as Willamette and Concordia will meet at 12:00 P.M. Concordia and Lewis-Clark State will follow around 3:00 P.M. while Willamette will play LCSC again at 6:00 P.M.
