Gravelle Signs with the Pittsburgh Pirates

Lewiston, ID-Lewis-Clark State College left-handed pitcher Nick Gravelle (Kelso, WA/Lower Columbia College) signed a professional baseball contract, with the Pittsburgh Pirates, as a non-drafted free agent, Saturday, August 4th. He will report directly to the Williamsport (PA) Crosscutters on the Short-Season Class A New York-Penn League, for the season of 2002. Gravelle went 5-3 with a 3.88 earned run average for the Alaska Summer League’s Anchorage Bucs. He was second on the team in strikeouts with 56.

Gravelle, this past spring, posted a 7-2 record with a 2.90 ERA. He finished tied for second on the staff in strikeouts with 75. His best outing of the season came March 29th at the Hawaii Rainbow Easter Tournament. Gravelle led the Warriors to a 10-2 rout over NCAA Division I annual power, Wichita State. He gave up just two runs on three hits in 7 2/3 innings pitched.

Gravelle joins fellow 2001 Warriors in the minors: Trevor Brown and Matt Hellman, Eugene Emeralds; J.R. Crider and Chris Mabeus, Vancouver Canadians; Ramon "Ben" Royce, Everett Aqua Sox; Wes Hutchison, Salm-Keizer Volcanoes; and, Ricky Osuna, St. George Pioneerzz.
