Warriors Vanquish the Cavaliers,
7-3
LEWISTON,ID--Matt Morgan doubled home Micah Furtado in the top of the fifth, powering Lewis-Clark State College to a 7-3 win over Concordia University of Portland, Ore. in the final game of the Guardian Plumbing and Heating Tournament, Sunday afternoon, at Harris Field.
Lewis-Clark State’s (14-4) first three batters pounded out seven of L-C’s 12 hits. Furtado and Mike Madrid led the Warriors’ attack with three hits apiece. Furtado got L-C on the board in the third inning with a solo shot to right, his fourth of the season. Madrid also hit a solo home run, his third, to lead off the fourth inning. He also had a double and a two-run single.
Making his first appearance on the mound for L-C, Zeph Zinsman threw well, hurling four innings, scattering three hits, and giving up only two runs. William Simmons (3-0) spelled Zinsman in the fifth, and surrendered only three hits in five innings of work.
Chris Reinertson led Concordia (5-15) with a pair of base hits. Michael Devaney (1-2) picked up the loss.
LCSC will venture to LaGrande, Ore. for its next game on Tuesday, and then will host the Lewis-Clark State College Tournament next weekend against St. Martin’s College and the University of British Columbia.
