Puckett and L-C Roll 15-3 Past Eastern Oregon

LEWISTON,ID--A Mark Gallagher three-run double in the bottom of the second put an early finishing touch on a 15-3 Lewis-Clark State win over Eastern Oregon, Sunday afternoon, at Harris Field. The Warriors have now defeated the Mountaineers 76 straight times.

Gallagher, on the double, advanced to third on a throwing error to the plate by the Mountaineer shortstop, and then advanced home as the pitcher, backing up the plate, threw wildly to third to get Gallagher. He went 2-for-6 on the afternoon, scoring three runs and driving three more for eighth-ranked Lewis-Clark State (29-11). Matt Morgan was one hit shy of the cycle, missing just a home run. He was 3-of-5 with three RBI. Gabe Stajduhar continued to feast on Mountaineer pitching, going 2-for-2 at the plate with two RBI. For the series, he batted .667 (6-9) with three doubles, a home run, five RBI, and three runs scored. Nic Puckett (2-0) picked up the win after hurling seven innings, scattering six hits, allowing three runs, and striking out six batters.

Eight different Mountaineers had hits, but Noah Scott’s solo homer in the top of the first, gave Eastern Oregon (5-23) it’s only lead of the series. Kelly Hood (2-4) was battered around for four innings, giving up seven hits and seven earned runs. Five of the 15 Warrior runs were unearned.

Lewis-Clark State plays host to Washington State, Tuesday night, at 6:30 PM. Eastern Oregon will get ready to play another ranked team, #9 British Columbia, in a pair of doubleheaders, on Saturday and Sunday in LaGrande, Ore.
