Warriors #6 in Final NAIA Poll

LEWISTON, ID-The Lewis-Clark State College Warriors finish #6 in the final NAIA College Baseball Top 25 poll, released Wednesday, May 8th. L-C moved up four spots from last week’s #10 ranking.

The Warriors (33-14) tallied 507 total points, 100 more than last week. LCSC defeated Albertson College and Central Washington, last week. The Warriors close out the regular season with a game at Central Washington, tomorrow, games at Washington State, Saturday and Sunday, before closing out the season Monday night, against WSU, at Harris Field.

Oklahoma City University (48-12) moves up to #1 for the first time in about a month, and they garnered 17 first place votes. The Stars won the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament last weekend, and are the number one seed in the Region VI tournament, which opened today. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (43-10), the Florida Sun Conference champions, drop to number two, after being the top-ranked team in the last three polls. The Eagles tallied eight first place votes, and are playing in the Region XIV Tournament in Winter Haven, Fla. Auburn-Montgomery (48-16) finished at #3, and registered two first place votes. The Senators won the Georgia-Alabama-Carolina Conference Tournament last weekend, and open the Region XIII Tournament today. Bellevue University (40-13-1) ends up #4 after winning the regular and post season Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference titles. The Bruins are the top seed in this week’s Region IV Tournament at Fremont, Neb. Georgia Southwestern (48-11) rounds out the top five, falling two spots in the poll after finishing second at the GACC Tournament. The Hurricanes host the Region XIII Tournament this week, and are the top seed.

Albertson College (33-16-1) finishes at #14, despite clinching home field for the Region I Tournament, by taking three-of-four games against Concordia. The University of British Columbia (31-17) holds on, finishing #22 in the final poll. The Thunderbirds split four games at Oregon Tech and will be the #2 seed in the Region I Tournament, starting tomorrow in Caldwell, Idaho.

Other colleges that made the 2001 Avista NAIA World Series field are as follows: #7 Dallas Baptist University (35-15); #11 Indiana Tech (41-12); and, #15 Ohio Dominican College (37-10). Warner Southern College picked up nine votes for the Top 25.
