Warriors Blast Eight Home Runs, Cheff Win #1300!
ELLENSBURG,WA--Sixth-ranked Lewis-Clark State bashed eight home runs and head coach Ed Cheff tallied his 1,300th career win in a 16-2 romp over Central Washington, Thursday afternoon, at Tomlinson Field. Cheff is the ninth winningest coach in college baseball history.
Tory Haven belted two home runs, scored three runs, and drove in four more to lead Lewis-Clark State (34-14). Brendan Ryan went 2-for-5 at the plate, scoring two runs, and collecting three RBI. Micah Furtado was 3-for-6, and was one hit shy of the cycle. Mark Gallagher added a three-run homer. In all, LCSC pounded out 16 hits, 11 of the extra base variety.
Zeph Zinsman (1-0), listed as a first baseman/designated hitter, picked up his first collegiate win, tossing three innings, yielding just three hits.
Anthony Rodriguez and Jake Burns each recorded a pair of hits for Central Washington (14-23). Sam Mirkovich (0-2) went the distance to pick up the loss.
Furtado set the tone early with a lead off home run, on the third pitch of the game. The Wildcats countered in the bottom of the third as John Viafore singled home Rodriguez.
The Warriors broke things wide open with a seven-run fourth. Zinsman blasted a two-run shot to left center and Gabe Stajduhar followed with a solo shot. Several batters later, Paul Gallegos singled in another run, and Gallagher roped a three-run homer to right center to cap off the inning.
Lewis-Clark State will play a three-game series with
Washington State, starting Saturday night, at Pullman. Game time is set for 6:00
PM. Sunday’s game will start at 1:00 PM, also in Pullman, and will be broadcast
live by Fox Sports Northwest. Monday’s game will be at Harris Field, and start
at 6:30 PM. That will conclude the regular season for the Warriors.
