Heitmann Earns Academic Award

LEWISTON, ID-Lewis-Clark State College senior right-handed pitcher, Ryan Heitmann (Lewiston, ID/Taft College/Lewiston HS), was named to the Verizon Academic All-America Baseball All-District VIII College Division Team, released Thursday, May 9th.

Heitmann is currently 3-1 with a 5.19 ERA, with one save, in 26.0 innings of work. He has struck out 31 batters while only walking four. Heitmann has posted a cumulative 3.975 GPA in Kinesiology.

Heitmann was one of only two pitchers selected for the All-District team. Others named to the team were: Spike Einsiedler, pitcher, Pomona College; Gregor Connors, catcher, Cal Poly-Pomona; Ryan Dearinger, infielder, George Fox; Bryce Gardinier, infielder, Western Oregon; Matt Rager, infielder, Pomona; Luke Smude, infielder, Pomona; Matt Benjamin, outfielder, Willamette; Sam Owre, outfielder, Western Baptist; and, Eric Bell, outfielder, George Fox.

All will now be eligible for the Verizon Academic All-America Baseball College Division Team to be released at a later date.

To be eligible, an athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 on a 4.00 scale.
