Kyle Allen and Nate Kuhns proportionally combined on a four-hitter for Lewis-Clark State, which notched its first shutout of the year in beating Concordia 3-0 on Saturday, the second day of the Cannon Building Supply Series at Harris Field.

The Warriors, 4-1 overall, picked up their first win in the five-team tournament, which continues today with three games.

Eastern Oregon and Concordia face off at 10 a.m., followed by Eastern Oregon and Linfield at 1. Albertson will take on L-C in the 4 p.m. nightcap.

In other games Saturday, Linfield beat Albertson 6-2 then Eastern Oregon topped the Coyotes 6-4.

Linfield is 2-1 in tournament games, Eastern Oregon 1-0, L-C 1-1, and Concordia and Albertson both 1-2.

Allen, a junior left-hander, worked the first five innings, allowing two singles while striking out five and walking one.

Kuhns, a senior right-hander making his Warrior debut, came on in the sixth and finished out the game, likewise yielding two hits while striking out seven and walking none. He was awarded the save.

"Both guys threw well," L-C Ed Cheff said. "They kept it around the plate, and they got some breaks.

The Cavaliers got only one baserunner past second; Andy Carlile was thrown out trying to score by left fielder Billy Steverman following a single Kevin Baird.

L-C managed just five hits for the second straight game. Two came from Derek Bruce, including his first home run as a Warrior, a solo shot to left field in the fifth inning.

L-C scored its other two runs in the third by way of Jose Rodriguez's RBI triple and a sacrifice fly by Allen Balmer.

"Our hitting's a concern right now," Cheff said. "Guys are really struggling with pitch recognition, so we end up swinging at an awful lot of pitches outside the zone."

Sal Aguilar, a well-regarded senior right-hander whose L-C career has been derailed by arm problems, is expected to make his Warrior pitching debut today.
