KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. -- The Lewis-Clark State baseball team's first road trip of the season turned into a showcase for one of the Warriors' homegrown players -- Allen Balmer.
The Lewiston High graduate went 9-for-11 with five RBI as LCSC clobbered Oregon Tech in a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon. The Warriors won by scores of 12-0 and 17-5.
Prior to these contests, L-C hadn't strayed from Harris Field this spring. But the road seemed to agree with the Warriors, whose winning streak moved to nine games, giving them a 21-3 record.
Balmer, who came into the game with a team-best batting average of .345, did nothing to hurt that mark. The sophomore third baseman slugged three doubles and a home run.
In the opener, Balmer swatted RBI singles in the second and third innings.
In the sixth frame, junior Tyler Hunt -- who had just eight at-bats entering this game -- clubbed a three-run homer to left.
Left-handed junior pitcher Robby Brethauer, making his first start of the season, didn't allow a hit in three innings of work but did issue five walks. He took credit for the victory, and four other Warrior pitchers combined on a two-hitter.
LCSC turned the second game into a blowout immediately, scoring six runs in the first. Ryan Stevenson fueled that burst with a three-run homer.
Stevenson's shot was followed by Brandon Morris, who hammered a two-run blast in the third, and Balmer, who cranked a three-run missile in the fourth.
The Owls (5-15) were more productive in this contest. But the Warriors' six-pitcher contingent still limited them to eight hits.
On the day, L-C got five hits from Justin Fuller and four from Jose Rodriguez.
These teams will play again today at noon.
