Carlos Fisher gave Lewis-Clark State its best pitching start so far this week, and the Warriors drubbed Azusa Pacific 14-5 on Thursday night at Harris Field.

Justin Fuller and Anthony Slagle homered and together drove in seven runs for L-C, which salvaged a split of the four-game series with the Cougars.

Fisher, a junior right-hander, went seven innings, equaling the longest stint by a Warrior pitcher this year. He limited the Cougars to one run while allowing eight hits, striking out eight and walking two.

"He was throwing some 93-mph fastballs tonight, we haven't had too many guys throw that hard here," L-C coach Ed Cheff said of Fisher, who moved to 4-1. "He's a strong guy. Eventually he could be someone who could give us 130 pitches in a game."

Fuller belted his first homer of the year, a three-run shot in the second inning. Slagle tagged his second of the year, a grand slam that keyed L-C's seven-run seventh.

Slagle's bomb was preceded by a curious sequence that led to the ejection of Azusa Pacific coach Paul Svagdis and third baseman Ryan Marcos. After Josh Celigoy walked and Brandon Morris singled to begin the L-C seventh, a grounder off the bat of Tyson Dietz was fielded by pitcher Scott Hodson, who tried to cut down the lead runner. But Marcos bobbled the throw.

Celigoy, however, assumed he was out and overran third. He was tagged by Marcos, but was ruled safe as he scrambled back to the bag. Both Svagdis and Marcos were tossed arguing the call.

Five pitches later, Slagle homered to right.

Morris drove in two runs for the Warriors (30-7), who were outhit 12-10 by Azusa Pacific (24-15). The Cougars had three hits in the ninth, during which they scored four runs -- all attributed to Nate Kuhns.
