OREM, Utah -- After stumbling through the first few
innings, the Lewis-Clark State baseball team rocketed to a 13-3 blowout of
Utah Valley State on Wednesday afternoon.
The Warriors (29-6) did nearly all their damage in the fourth and fifth.
In those frames, they rang up 10 hits, 10 runs and turned a 2-1 deficit into
an 11-2 lead.
Right fielder Ryan Stevenson came up with three RBI during that push,
which included a two-run triple. Leadoff hitter Jose Castenon added two RBI,
and finished with four on the day.
LCSC pitcher Carlos Fisher ran into immediate trouble, allowing a solo
homer from Canyon Vance in the first inning. Fisher also walked in a run,
staking the Wolverines to a 2-0 lead.
But over the next five innings, the right-handed senior permitted six
hits and one run. Fisher picked up the win to improve to 4-0.
Castenon, Gavin Concepcion and Brandon Ramsey clubbed three hits apiece.
Jason Garcia pitched effectively over the final three innings to earn a
save.
In a loss to Brigham Young on Tuesday, the Warriors struck out 18 times.
In this win, they tallied 17 hits and whiffed just twice.
LCSC will return to Lewiston for a four-game set with Eastern Oregon,
beginning Friday at 6:30 p.m.
