L-C's Dyche pokes above .500
Copyright of The Trib
Twice in the past week, Joey Dyche landed squarely on a
.500 batting average. On Sunday, the Lewis-Clark State junior hopped over
that barrier.
Dyche lashed a single, a double and a home run in four at-bats, leading
the Warriors to a 12-3 win over Eastern Oregon at Harris Field. It was the
finale of L-C's three-game sweep, which extended the Mountaineers' losing
string to 19 straight.
Dyche is now 67-for-132 this season -- a .508 average. The highest
single-season mark in LCSC history is Chad Miltenberger's .482 in 1983.
Hitting leadoff, Dyche tapped a bunt single in the first inning. Then
came a solo homer to center in the third and a two-run double in the fourth.
EOU intentionally walked him in the sixth, then he flew out in the seventh.
The Warriors (32-6) didn't get their first run until Dyche's homer in the
third -- which made it 1-1. But they took command in the fourth, scoring
five tallies on six hits.
Working a planned pitching split, the trio of Derrick Landavazo, Nick
Colborn and Jason Garcia limited EOU to seven hits and two earned run.
Landavazo, the starter, went five innings, struck out nine and picked up his
fourth win in five decisions.
L-C also got three hits from Allen Balmer, who drove in runs in the
fourth and seventh. He also scored three times.
Dean Fore went 3-for-5 with two RBI for the Mountaineers, now 6-29.
The Warriors will be off today, then travel to Spokane to face Whitworth
on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
