Joey Dyche went 2-for-4 to maintain his .506 season
batting average, and five Lewis-Clark State College pitchers combined on a
five-hitter in the Warriors' 9-1 victory over the University of British
Columbia Monday evening at Harris Field.
It was the 10th consecutive victory for the top-ranked Warriors, who are
now 38-6 on the season.
Dyche extended his hitting streak to 14 games with a leadoff single in
the first inning. L-C wound up scoring four runs in the first, then added a
single run in the second and three more in the fourth.
Meanwhile, L-C starter Brad Davis and relievers Nate Kuhns, Chris Kissock
and Jon McCaslin held UBC to just two hits over the game's first seven
innings.
The Warriors' final pitcher, Derrick Landavazo, came in to start the
eighth. He surrendered a single in that inning, then gave up a solo home run
to Steve Bell-Irving with one down in the ninth.
Dyche, who is chasing L-C's single-season batting average record, added a
single in the fourth inning. He came home on a bases-loaded walk to Josh
Celigoy, and the Warriors tacked on three unearned runs before the frame had
ended. UBC committed a pair of errors in the inning.
Celigoy picked up another RBI in the second, singling home Justin Fuller,
who had reached on a two-out double.
L-C's three-run fourth included an RBI double by D.J. Kooken and a
two-run single by Allen Balmer.
UBC (29-17-1) walked in another Warrior run in the seventh.
L-C and UBC will square off again tonight at 6:30.
