AZUSA, Calif. -- Jose Castenon pocketed a school
record and a go-ahead homer Thursday, and he didn't have to work
especially hard for either.
The Lewis-Clark State infielder walked a school-record five times
in the first game as the Warriors swept Azusa Pacific 10-4 and 5-1
in a college baseball doubleheader.
Castenon broke L-C's single-game mark of four walks, held by
numerous players, and he scored three runs in a game in which he had
zero official at-bats.
When he did get an official plate appearance, he made it pay,
hitting a solo homer in the first inning of the second game.
The Warriors (15-4) stretched their winning streak to seven
games, getting six shutout innings from second-game starter Brad
Davis.
Joey Dyche hit a solo homer for the Warriors in the eighth inning
of the second game, and Ryan Stevenson added a two-run shot in the
ninth.
In the opener, the Warriors trailed until the seventh inning,
when Matt Vogel hit a two-run double and Nicolas Benton added a
two-run single to make it 7-4.
Azusa Pacific had taken a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first
inning, getting a two-run double from Joe Morrison.
Allen Balmer hit a run-scoring double in the ninth as the
Warriors tacked on three insurance runs.
Sal Augilar (3-0) was the first-game winner, giving up five hits
and four runs in six innings. Derrick Landavazo threw three innings
on shutout relief.
Davis (1-1) controlled the second game, allowing three hits and a
walk while striking out six.
Castenon homered to left-center field to create a 1-0 lead, and
Rhett Parker produced the eventual game-winner in the fifth when he
singled, stole second, and advanced two bases on errors.
