Warriors lay waste to Western Baptist; Lewis-Clark State racks up 22 hits en route to 20-0 victory

Lewis-Clark State compiled achievements both notable and obscure at Western Baptist's expense, opening their three-game weekend series with a 20-0 victory Friday evening at Harris Field.

L-C's run output and its 22 hits were both season-highs, and every starter had at least one hit and one RBI.

The Warriors, who scored seven times in the first inning, tacked on 11 in the fifth, easily their biggest rally of the season.

Four pitchers combined on a six-hitter, giving the Warriors their first shutout of the year.

And, in an impressive yet inauspicious manner, L-C batters went without a strikeout. It's been precisely 50 games and six days shy of a year since that last occurred.

L-C ended a two-game losing streak in moving to 9-4. Western Baptist, also nicknamed Warriors, suffered its third consecutive loss, slipping to 5-8.

The teams conclude this series with a doubleheader today beginning at 1 p.m.

L-C's first-inning rally was a methodically constructed outburst; those seven runs came on seven hits, all of them singles, including RBI raps by Brandon Morris, Brandon Ramsey, Rhett Parker and Matt Vogel.

The Warriors were a bit more dynamic in the fifth, during which they sent 16 players to the plate, came up with nine hits and took advantage of three walks and two errors. The barrage featured Ramsey's two-run double, L-C's only hit of the game that produced more than one RBI.

Ramsey and Morris drove in three runs apiece, while four other Warriors had two RBI.

Chris Kissock (3-0), the second L-C pitcher and the only one to throw more than two innings, was awarded the victory for a three-inning stint that saw two strikeouts and just one hit.
