Big Inning Propels Lewis-Clark Past Wolverines

April 27, 2006

OREM, Utah - Utah Valley State (13-31) fell victim to a hot hitting Lewis-Clark State team, 14-7 on Thursday night. Lewis-Clark (37-3), the #1 ranked team in the NAIA, racked up 20 hits and used a seven-run sixth inning that included a grand slam by Matt Vogel to take the first game of a three-game set.

After Lewis-Clark jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, the Wolverines answered with three-runs in the bottom of the inning on RBI's by Nick Connor and Eli Slesk.

The Warriors tied it up in the second on a solo home run by Ryan Wholey and regained the lead an inning later on another solo shot, this time by Justin Fuller.

Lewis-Clark then added another run in the fourth on an RBI double by Mark Thompson that scored Zach Adam to take a 5-3 lead.

Dan Bulow tied the game in the bottom of the fourth after hitting his ninth home run of the year, a two-run towering blast to left-center.

In the sixth, the Warriors got an RBI single from Wholey to take a 6-5 lead. Two batters later, Vogel followed with his big grand slam to five LCSC a 10-5 lead.

The Warriors also got three consecutive doubles in the inning to add two more runs, totalling seven runs on eight hits in the fateful inning.

After Lewis-Clark scored single runs in the eight and ninth to take a 14-5 lead, the Wolverines got a home run from Cory Newton and an RBI sign from Keiki Albino for the final tally.

Kam Mickolio (4-6) suffered the loss for Utah Valley State while Chris Kissock (7-1) earned the win for Lewis-Clark.
