Lewis-Clark State picked up
a victory and Concordia
claimed two Saturday as calm
and slightly warmer
conditions allowed the Les
Schwab Tournament to get
under way at Harris Field.
Chris Kissock threw
four-hit ball over seven
innings in the day's middle
game, leading L-C to a 5-1
victory over Linfield.
In the opener, where the
temperature was 17 for the
opening pitch at 10:07 a.m.,
Concordia topped Linfield
7-4. Then in the late game,
the Cavaliers from Portland
held off Eastern Oregon 6-5.
The tournament, condensed
to six games when Friday's
schedule was scrapped due to
a wind chill factor that
hovered between single
digits and the low teens,
will conclude with three
contests today. Eastern
Oregon (0-1) and Linfield
will square off at 10 a.m.,
followed by Concordia (2-0)
and L-C (5-0) at 12:30 p.m.
The Warriors will face
Eastern Oregon in the
tournament finale at
approximately 3.
Kissock (2-0) threw just
97 pitches in his
seven-inning start, allowing
only an unearned run in the
fourth while striking out
five and walking none.
Max Hibbs, who relieved
Kissock to start the eighth
-- at which time L-C led 2-1
-- finished the game in
perfect fashion, striking
out five to earn the save.
The Warriors scored three
unearned runs in the bottom
of the eighth. An infield
throwing error on Isaac
Simmons' two-out grounder
plated two runs, and Allen
Balmer followed with an RBI
single.
Juan Verdejo had an RBI
single in the second for the
Warriors, and Matt Vogel
laced an RBI double in the
fifth. |
