Warriors Sign Junior College Standouts

Transfers top list of new Recruits

Lewiston, ID- The Lewis-Clark State College baseball team continued to
reload the 2006 roster with the announcement of six new recruits for the
upcoming season. Three of the five new recruits come out of the California
Community College hotbed.
Mike Miller (shown here) joins L-C
from Cuesta Community College, where he was recently named to the Western
State All-Conference team. The 6’ 2” , 185 lb right handed pitcher saw
extensive time on the mound during the 2005 season. While starting in 14
games, he appeared in 88 1/3 innings, compiling an impressive 10-3 record
and posting an ERA of 2.95. ”He can really pitch.” said assistant coach Gary
Picone. “ He’s not real overpowering, but he has an exceptional record, and
we expect him to come in and make an immediate impact.” Miller, who resides
in Dos Palos, CA, will be entering his junior year at the institution.
Ryan Wholey
(left) has committed to the Warrior program for the 2006 season. Wholey
comes to us from Feather River Community College (California), where he was
named Golden Valley Conference Player of The Year. He was also named to the
California Community College All-American team. The 5’ 10” 185lb right
handed outfielder hit .440 in 2005, while knocking in 42 runs, 15 doubles, 3
triples, 1 HR, and stealing 22 bases. Assistant Warrior baseball coach Gary
Picone said “Here’s a guy with tremendous offensive skills who has good
speed, a strong arm, and is reliable in the outfield”.
Juan Verdejo
is the third transfer joining the program from a
California based institution, where he attended
Porterville Community College. Like Wholey, Verdejo has been recognized
for his accomplishments. He was not only named to his All-Conference team,
but also to the Northern California All-American team. “Verdejo gives us
depth in the middle of the infield.” stated Picone. “He has great skills,
can run, and even hit with power. He is an extremely versatile player and
were excited about him joining the program”. In 2005 the middle infielder
hit .352, with 22 RBI’s, 7 doubles, 2 triples, 6 HR’s, drawing 25 walks, and
stealing 17 bases.
Zach Adam(left)
has committed to the Warrior program, joining LCSC
from Everette Community College outside Seattle. The 6’ 4” first baseman
was named to the 2005 NWAACC All-Star 2nd team. Assistant coach
Picone said this about Zach, “He’s a right-handed, power first baseman who
underwent knee surgery at the end of this past year. He probably won’ play
early fall, but once healthy we good things out of him.” This past season
Zach hit .353, with 32 RBI’s, 2 doubles, 1 triple, and 4 HR’s. Zach joins
the team with two years left of elgibility.

comes to L-C from Lower
Columbia C.C., where he was named to the 2005 NWAACC All-tournament team,
NWAACC All-Confernce team, and the Western Regional All-stars. The 6’ 2”
210lb right-handed relief pitcher took 4 years off from baseball before
returning in 2005, where he posted astonishing stats. In 30 total innings
pitched, he went 3-0 with 10 saves, allowing only 11 hits, while striking
out 46 batters and walking only 11. His ERA on the year registered at 0.60.
“He’s the best closer in the NWAACC. We really wanted to recruit a closer,
and we feel he fits that role nicely for us.” stated Picone. Nicknamed “Maui”,
Jerod grew up in Hawaii prior to playing ball at Lower Columbia.
