COLLEGE:
Played one
season at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, British
Columbia, where he was both an outfielder and a pitcher. He
pitched 14 innings and went 1-0 with five saves. At the
plate, he went 9-for-27 for a .333 average with five RBI and
two stolen bases.
HIGH SCHOOL:
Participated in five sports – soccer, volleyball,
basketball, baseball, and track and field – at J.L. Crowe
Secondary School in Trail, B.C. The school didn’t have a
baseball team after his sophomore year, but caught the
attention of scouts during summer ball. Was a standout
basketball player as well and earned Athlete of the Year his
senior year. He also won the region shot put title and was
the home run derby champion. He also was a standout in the
classroom and graduated with honors.
PERSONAL:
He was born on Nov. 13, 1987 in Trail, B.C., to Wayne and
Deborah Florko. He has a sister Chelsea, and a brother,
Chris, who played baseball at North Idaho College and
Gonzaga along with childhood friend Jason Bay. Ashton enjoys
working out, foosball, video games, and listening to music.
He is majoring in Kinesiology.
