LCSC: Made seven appearances a year ago, all in relief and posted one save and a 3.55 earned run average without a win or a loss. He pitched 12.2 innings and gave up 14 hits and 10 walks, but with eight strikeouts.

JUNIOR COLLEGE: Attended Pierce College and pitched for coach Bob Lofrano. 

HIGH SCHOOL: Graduated from Chatsworth High School in West Hills, Calif., in 2002, where he earned four varsity letters. As a pitcher, coached by Tom Measborn, he was a three-time member of the All-City team. During his junior year he was the All-City Pitcher of the Year, an All-State pitcher, and a member of the All-American second team.  

PERSONAL: Born Feb.29, 1984 in West Hills, Calif., to Joe Guntz Sr. and Rose Guntz. He has two step-brothers, Chris and Jason Benghiat, and one step-sister, Alle Benghiat. Guntz enjoys magic, golf, and Tiger Woods Golf. He is majoring in History.
