Former Lewiston High pitcher signs with LCSC

6-8-07

The Lewis-Clark State College baseball program continued its strong relationship with both former Lewiston High School players and with Walla Walla Community College by signing pitcher Nick Masters to a letter-of-intent to play for the Warriors next season.

Masters, a 6-foot, 170-pound right-hander, will be a junior next season after spending two years at Walla Walla CC following high school.

Masters is coming off a huge season in which he was named the Eastern Region Player of the Year in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community College (NWAACC). He posted an 11-3 record with an earned run average of close to 1.80 this year and set three single-season records.

He pitched a record 103.2 innings, struck out 97 and won 11 games, all records for the program. The team went 32-18 this year.

As a freshman, Masters pitched 53 innings.

“We feel Nick is one of the premier pitchers in the Pacific Northwest and we’re excited to get him,” LCSC pitching coach Gus Knickrehm said. “We expect him to come in and become part of our starting rotation.”

Masters will join former LHS and Walla Walla CC teammate Kyle Greene, who played first base at LCSC this season. Greene will be a senior this year and one of four players from LHS on the squad. The others are Tyler Knigge, who was a senior this year at LHS, and catcher Tyler Carson, who redshirted this past year and will be a freshman, eligibility-wise, next season.
