The eight RBI ties a school
record for a game and his two
home runs give him 30 on the
season, which ties the school
record set by Jim O'Dell in 1983
when the Warriors played 76
games (click

Mills had an RBI double and then
a three-run home run to drive in
four runs in the first inning.
He then hit a grand-slam home
run in the seventh as the
Warriors, the NAIA's top-ranked
team all season, improved to
48-4. LCSC closes out the
regular season on Tuesday
against Washington State in
Pullman.
LCSC opens play in the Region I
Tournament, which will be held
in Caldwell. Albertson will
serve as the host and will be
joined by the Warriors, British
Columbia and Concordia in the
three-day, double-elimination
tournament. The eventual
champion will play the winner of
the Region II Tournament,
composed of Golden State
Athletic Conference, at the site
of the Region II winner in
California.
Sunday's game also marked the
end of the coaching career of
Linfield coach Scott Carnahan,
who announced his retirement
following this season. It was a
rough ending for Carnahan, whose
club fell 7-6 in 14 innings to
the Warriors on Saturday.
Linfield finishes the season at
22-16.
Mills, who had the game-ending
RBI single in Saturday's win,
picked up where he left off by
driving in the Warriors' first
run with a double. Jessie Mier,
Paul Martin and Ryan Wholey
added RBI singles, while Zach
Evangelho's RBI double made it
5-0. Kyle Melton added an RBI
single, while a wild pitch
allowed another run to score
before Mills hit the first of
his two home runs.
In all, LCSC sent 14 batters to
the plate in the first inning
and collected eight hits and two
walks, all off of Linfield
starter Cameron Larson, who
lasted only two-thirds of an
inning.
Leading 10-2 in the seventh, a
walk, a single, and a hit batter
loaded the bases for Mills, who
responded with the grand slam.
Mier followed with a solo home
run, his sixth of the season, to
complete the scoring.
Mills finished 4-for-5 with
three runs scored. He leads LCSC
in hitting with a .468 averages
and how has 105 RBI on the
season. He is just four hits
short of 100 and has scored 84
runs this season.
Thompson went 2-for-3 with three
runs scored, while Mier went
2-for-3 with two RBI and two
runs scored. Evangelho finished
3-for-4, while Melton was
2-for-5. Both Evangelho and
Melton scored two runs and drove
in a run apiece.
LCSC starter Chris Schwinden
(4-1) picked up the win. He went
six innings and allowed eight
hits and three runs, but struck
out three. Mike Miller allowed
one hit and struck out two in
his only inning, while Brad
Schwarzenbach allowed two hits
and struck out one in his two
innings.
No matter how LCSC fares in the
playoffs, the Warriors are
guaranteed the host berth in the
51st annual Avista NAIA World
Series, which will be held at
Harris Field on May 25-June 1.
