Junior third baseman Beau
Mills was named Player of
the Year, while Ed Cheff
earned Coach of the Year
honors as the Lewis-Clark
State College baseball team
dominated the all-NAIA
Region I Team and honors.
Nine Warriors were selected
to the 17-member all-region
team, led by Mills, who is a
leading candidate for the
NAIA Player of the Year
honor, which will be chosen
among the players of the
year in each region. Also
named to the team were
catcher Jessie Mier, first
baseman Kyle Greene,
shortstop Mark Thompson,
outfielders Paul Martin and
Brent Wyatt, and pitchers
Chris Kissock, Matt Fitts,
and Brian Parker.
Mills, who is being
projected as a first round
pick in next month’s Major
League draft by several
draft gurus, is hitting a
team-best .462 on the season
(98-of-212) with 106 RBI, 87
runs scored, and 21 doubles.
He has 31 home runs, which
is a single-season record at
LCSC, a slugging percentage
of 1.000, and an on-base
percentage of .551. During
the season, he was twice
named the Region’s Player of
the Week, and also earned
the NAIA National Player of
the Week honor.
Cheff, in his 31st season at
the Warrior helm, has guided
the Warriors to a 51-4
record. LCSC has been ranked
No. 1 in the NAIA all season
and will be shooting for its
15th national title at the
51st annual Avista NAIA
World Series, which takes
place May 25-June 1 at
Lewiston’s Harris Field.
Mier, a senior, is hitting
.359 on the season with six
home runs and 57 RBI.
Greene, a junior from
Lewiston, has a .338 average
and is tied with Mier for
third on the team in home
runs with six.
Thompson, a senior, is
hitting .385, second-best on
the team, and has a
team-leading six triples. He
is also closing in on the
single-season stolen base
record of 42 as he’s
36-of-38 in steal attempts
this season.
Wyatt, a junior who suffered
a facial injury a week
before the season started,
overcame a slow start to
lift his batting average to
.341 and he’s second on the
team in home runs with
seven. He’s also 11-of-11 in
stolen bases.
Martin, a sophomore, is at
.313 on the season and has
42 RBI and an on-base
percentage of .408. He’s
9-of-10 in stolen bases.
On the mound, Kissock, a
junior, is 11-1 on the
season with one save. He
pitched a team-high 82
innings and allowed only 67
hits and 17 earned runs. He
walked 24 and struck out 60
while posting a 1.87 earned
run average.
Fitts, a sophomore, emerged
at LCSC’s No. 2 starter. He
had a 9-0 record with a 1.82
ERA. He’s pitched 54.1
innings and allowed 41 hits,
11 earned runs and 17 walks,
and has struck out 62.
Parker, a junior, is the
Warriors’ closer. He is 4-0
with a 1.33 ERA. He had made
18 appearances this season
and pitched 54 innings. He
has seven saves and has
walked 13, compared to 71
