Warriors roll past California
Baptist 9-0
4-3-07
LEWISTON, Idaho -- Brad Schwarzenbach
and Brian Parker combined on a
four-hitter to help the Lewis-Clark
State College baseball team roll past
California Baptist for the second
straight day, this time 9-0 Tuesday
night at LCSC's Harris Field.
The Warriors, ranked No. 1 in the NAIA,
improved to 28-2 overall after
stretching their win streak to nine
games. LCSC, which defeated CBU 22-8 on
Monday, will go for the three-game
series sweep on Wednesday when the two
teams collide again at 6 p.m.
Schwarzenbach, who has been used as both
a starter and reliever this season, was
impressive. The junior right-hander from
LaMinda, Calif., improved to 3-0 after
allowing just three hits and one walk in
five innings of work. He also struck out
four.
Parker, a junior right-hander from
Yakima, Wash., was on fire in his four
innings. He allowed just one hit and
struck out 10.
CBU, which fell to 24-15 overall, did
put three baserunners in scoring
position, but couldn't get on the board.
The Warriors jumped on CBU starter Kevin
Duke early, scoring a run in the first
and three in the second. Brent Wyatt,
who tied a school record with eight RBI
during Monday's game, singled to open
the bottom of the first, stole second
and eventually scored on a ground out by
Paul Martin.
Jessie Mier opened the LCSC second with
a single and Ryan Wholey reached on a
fielder's choice bunt. An error allowed
the first run to score, while Kyle
Melton's RBI triple scored Wholey. Wyatt
followed with an RBI single.
After Martin's RBI single in the fourth
made it 5-0, the Warriors added a pair
of runs in the sixth. Wyatt started the
rally with a double and eventually
scored on a wild pitch. Martin drew a
walk and eventually scored on a
fielder's choice grounder by Wholey.
The Warriors' final two runs came in the
eighth when Wholey, Kyle Greene and
Melton hit consecutive singles to
produce the first run. Jessie Roehl's
sacrifice fly brought in the final run.
Despite scoring nine runs and collecting
11 hits, the Warriors stranded 15 base
runners in the game.
Wyatt finished 4-for-6 with two runs
scored, while Melton went 2-for-3 with
two RBI and three runs scored. Martin
also drove in a pair of runs.
The nine runs ended a streak of
eight-straight games the Warriors had
scored in double figures. LCSC is
averaging better than 10 runs a game
this season.
Garrett Gipe had a double for CBU's lone
extra-base hit.
