LCSC baseball
team is the unanimous No.1 preseason choice
in the NAIA
11-14-07
The
Lewis-Clark State College baseball team
begins this season the same way it ended the
two previous years – on top of the NAIA.
The
Warriors received all 22 first-place votes
to be the unanimous No. 1 selection in the
NAIA preseason Top 25, which came out
Wednesday.
LCSC
has won the last two Avista NAIA World
Series titles, including 15 overall, and
will go for a third straight championship on
May 23-30 at LCSC’s Harris Field.
The
Warriors received 550 points, while Azusa
Pacific was second in the poll with 500
points. Last year’s Series runner-up, Spring
Arbor of Michigan, was third with a 468
total, followed by Bellevue of Nebraska with
455 points, and Lee of Tennessee at 447 to
round out the top five.
The
College of Idaho was the only other Region I
team to receive votes and wound up at No. 39
in the poll.
The
College of Idaho helps LCSC kick off its
season in a tournament at Lewiston on Feb.
15-17. Also participating in the tournament
will be Mayville State and Whitworth.
LCSC’s
current schedule is available at
http://www.lcsc.edu/athletics/Baseball/2008/schedule/
but starting times and tournament pairings
have not been set.
The
NAIA’s first regular-season baseball poll
will come out in late February.
