LCSC completes series sweep
of UBC with 12-4 victory

- The Lewis-Clark State
College baseball team
continued it mastery over
the University of British
Columbia with a 12-4 triumph
over the Thunderbirds Sunday
at Nat Bailey Stadium.
The Warriors, 44-4 overall,
improved to 9-0 against UBC this
season and improved to 26-0
against Region I team during
the conference schedule.
Although LCSC games don't
count in the Region I
standings, LCSC has
dominated Region play and is
30-1 against NAIA
competition this season.
The Warriors stretched their
win streak to 15 on Sunday
by pounding out 12 hits and
receiving quality innings
from the bullpen. LCSC led
by as much as 10-1 on Sunday
in sweeping the four-game
series.
LCSC outfielder Paul martin
finished with three hits in
the game, the third time he
has accomplished the feat
this season. He also stole
two bases in the game to
become the first Warrior to
accomplish that feat this
year.
Warrior third baseman Kyle
Greene finished 2-for-2 to
up his team-leading batting
average to .459. He has hit
safely in 12 of his last 13
games this season.
The Warriors jumped out to a
4-0 lead in the third inning
with three hits, an error
and two walks. Brian Ward
drove in the first run with
a single, while Sean Halton
followed with a two-run
double. An error allowed the
final run to score.
LCSC made it 6-0 in the
fourth when Kyle Greene
stroked a two-run single to
center field.
After UBC scored a run in
the bottom of the fourth,
LCSC made it 10-1 in the
fifth with four runs. Mike
Rivera started the scoring
with an RBI single, while
Paul Martin stroked a
two-run single. Ward's
grounder drove in the final
run of the inning.
After the Thunderbirds
scored three times in the
sixth to make it 10-4, the
Warriors scored twice in the
eight to complete the
scoring. Against former
Warrior pitcher Aston Florko,
the Warriors completed the
scoring in the game when
Zach Adam was hit by a pitch
and Ward drew a walk. Mickey
Pingree then stroked a
two-out double to left.
Martin finished the day
3-for-5 with two runs scored
and two RBI. Greene went
2-for-2 with two RBI and a
run scored, while Halton and
Pingree also finished with
two RBI.
LCSC used four pitchers in
the game. Nick Masters, the
starter, improved to 5-0 as
he pitched 5.2 innings and
allowed seven hits and four
runs. Dustin Willis allowed
thee hits in his inning of
work, while Blaine Hardy and
Justin Mace went the final
2.1 innings and allowed only
one hits.
LCSC, which completed the
four-game road sweep,
improved to 9-0 against UBC
this season. The Warriors
resume action next Saturday
and Sunday in doubleheader
at home against Oregon Tech.
The doubleheaders both begin
at 1 p.m.
