LCSC
rolls past Corban 12-1
3-15-08
MCMINNVILLE, Ore. - Travis
Georgius and Kyle Greene
combined to drive in seven
runs and the Lewis-Clark
State College baseball team
received another big lift
from a first-time starter in
rolling to a 12-1 victory
over Corban College at
Linfield on Saturday.
Junior right-hander Ryan
Woods, who was expected to
be the Warriors' closer,
started his first game at
LCSC this season and pitched
five strong innings,
allowing just one hit to
improve to 3-0 on the
season. He did walk four,
but struck out five.
Georgius finished with a
game-high four RBI as he
went 2-for-6 in the game
with a run scored.
Greene continued to tear up
Corban pitching during the
three-game series sweep. He
went 2-for-2 with three RBI
and two runs scored on
Saturday to finish the
series by going 8-for-11
with five doubles, six runs
scored and six RBI.
The victory improves LCSC,
ranked No. 1 in the NAIA, to
21-2 on the season and
stretches its win streak to
15. Corban falls to 5-11.
LCSC outscored Corban 39-12
in the three-game sweep, and
along with its three-game
sweep of College of Idaho
earlier in the week, the
Warriors outscored their
opponents 73-16 in the six
games.
As they have all week in the
six-game road trip, the
Warriors jumped out to the
early lead with four runs in
the first inning. LCSC has
scored 45 runs in the first
inning this season, the most
in any inning it has batted
in.
Brent Wyatt opened the game
with a walk and Paul Martin
was hit by a pitch. After an
error moved up both runners,
Greene drove in both with a
single to left. Kepa Wong
then singled Greene to third
and both scored on a two-run
double by Georgius.
The Warriors added two more
in the fourth when Wyatt
tripled and Martin was again
hit by a pitch. Josh
Ashenbrenner also was hit by
a pitch to load the bases.
Greene's sacrifice fly to
left scored Wyatt, and Brian
Ward added an RBI single to
left to score Martin.
LCSC, which left the bases
loaded in the second and
fifth without scoring, made
it 8-0 in the sixth with two
more runs. Greene started
the rally with a double and
Georgius smacked a two-run
home run to left field. It
was the sophomore catcher's
first home run of the
season.
The Warriors stretched the
lead to 9-0 in the seventh
when Brian Bollwitt and
Chris Valencia singled, and
Mike Rivera added a one-out
RBI double.
Corban's lone run came in
the eighth inning when Jamie
McGraw singled and scored on
a two-out double by Craig
Spicer.
LCSC's final three runs came
in the ninth on an RBI
single by Chris Lum, an RBI
double from Kepa Wong, and a
passed ball.
Kevin Camacho relieved Woods
to start the sixth inning
for LCSC and he pitched
three innings. He allowed
six hits and one run, but
struck out three. Brian Bird
pitched the final inning and
struck out two.
The Warriors now play their
next seven games at home,
starting with a four-game
series against the
University of British
Columbia at 6 p.m. on
Friday. The two also play a
1 p.m. doubleheader on
Saturday and a noon game on
Easter Sunday. LCSC then
will play host to Concordia
for a three-game series with
a single game at 6 p.m. on
March 25, and then a 1 p.m.
doubleheader on March 26.
