1990: Lewis-Clark State College Baseball NAIA World Series Championship No. 6

LEWISTON, Idaho -- LCSC opened the 1990s the same way it ended the 1980s -- with an NAIA World Series championship.

The opener matched the Warriors against Lewis & Clark College of Portland, Ore., Warrior coach Ed Cheff's alma mater. But it didn't matter. LCSC was victorious 8-0. The Warriors then defeated Grand Canyon, Ariz., 13-9 before falling to St. Francis, Ill., 9-8.

The Warriors bounced back by defeating St. Rose, N.Y. 11-3, and then LCSC eliminated Southeastern Oklahoma 5-3, setting up a title-game tilt with Auburn-Montgomery, Ala.

In the title game, Warriors Mark Rasmussen and Greg Umfleet said they could feel it. They made Auburn-Montgomery feel it too.
The two hit home runs in the sixth inning as LCSC erased a 4-2 deficit to win its fourth consecutive title.

Umfleet started the four-run rally with a solo home run to right-center and Rasmussen, the tournament MVP, added a two-run shot to left-center, putting the Warriors ahead for good.

Relief pitcher Kevin Logsdon, a freshman, pitched five innings, allowing six hits and one unearned run. He also walked three and struck out five to pick up his second victory of the tournament.

Todd Anderson, Umfleet and Rasmussen had two RBI apiece for LCSC, which had seven players make the all-tournament team Rasmussen, Anderson, Umfleet, Logsdon, Mark Yockey, Greg Vaughns and John NesSmith.
