NORTHWEST NAZARENE INVITE - Sept 11, 2004
Probably the best combined day (men and women) that the LCSC team has had. Both teams won their halves of the meet and showed a significant improvement over a week ago.
The women were led by Taryn (sophomore, Minden, NV) who finished 3rd overall, however there was crew of LC runners at the front of the pack. April (5th), Jenny (6th), Shannon (10th), Erica (11th), and Darrah (13th). Significant improvement was also seen in Rikki, who was our 7th runner for the day at 23rd as well as Hillary (33), Erika (34) and Capri (37). Additionally, a couple of our gals that have been nursing injuries stepped back into the mix and had a reasonably good start and should continue to improve as they get healthier and fitter (Andrea - 49) and Ashley (55).
The men had a great day. We had talked about needing to pack it up better and we will see better results and they come through with flying colors. Not only were we fortunate to finish in front of a couple of Division II schools, but also ahead of Eastern Oregon, currently ranked #5 in the country. Eastern was missing one of their top three runners, but we still felt we ran well against them. EOU is a quality running program and anytime we have good results compared to quality teams we feel we are moving in the right direction.
Aaron led the men for the second week finishing 7th overall and was followed closely by Matt (9th), Anton (10th), Keith (11th) and James (21st) rounding it out for the top five. Jarrett (29) and Trevor (31) helped affect team scoring. We also saw great improvements and/or first races for the rest of the team (Nate-32, Austin-37, Johnny-48, Logan-49, and EJ-56 (lost a shoe at the start)).
We are off to Seattle this upcoming weekend to compete in the UW Sundodger meet. This is one of the big meets of the year with a lot of regional schools and nationally ranked schools. Our intentions are to continue to build on the success one day at a time and let the results take care of themselves.
