UI takes command of Sundodger

SEATTLE -- The University of Idaho women's cross country team placed six runners in the top 20 Saturday to take first place at the Sundodger Invitational.

Bevin Kennelly led the Vandals with a seventh-place finish overall, fourth among college runners. She finished the 6-kilometer race in 21 minutes 28.74 seconds. Teammate Mandy Macalister finished in eighth place with a time of 21:29.68.

Mary Kamau, Tania Vander Meulen, Letiwe Marakurwa and Dee Olson rounded out the top finishers for Idaho as they placed 12th, 13th, 15th and 20th, respectively.

The Vandal men were seventh behind the 16th-place showing of Jan Eitel, who finished the 8k race in a time of 24:46.24. He was the 13th collegiate finisher.

The Washington State women's team, led by Katie Troy and Karen Demartini, finished 10th. The two sophomores finished 50th and 66th, respectively.

Senior Jon Manthey was the sole scoring representative of the WSU men's team, placing 86th with a time 26:53.83. At this event last year, Manthey placed 118th and was a minute slower.

In the open division, comprised of smaller schools, the Lewis-Clark State women finished third with 141 points. Tausha Kuzmic led L-C with her 12th-place showing.

The Warrior men took ninth out of 19 teams. Alex Henry's 25th-place finish led all L-C runners.
