A good weekend for the first race of the year.  Much better conditions than last year where we dealt with extreme heat.

WOMEN'S RACE

Tausha ended up winning the race, however there was a crew of LCSC runners on her tail.  They all packed well together at the start and spread out as the 6000 meter race progressed.  Tausha's time was somewhat slower than last year when she finished second, but the team time (combined time of top 5 runners) was almost a minute faster than a year ago (122:22 vs 123:14).  This is exciting as we are just getting into the season.  Jenny Jensen ran up front with Tausha for a good portion of the race before falling back and finishing as the 3rd Warrior runner.  April was the second warrior to cross the line (4th overall).  She had a good day as she continued to race consistently and moved her way up over the last 1500 meters.  Taryn, Emily, Darrah and Shannon rounded out the top 7 for the warriors with Rikki, Hillary, Capri and Erika right behind them.  Pretty good performance for the first race of the year, especially for the first year runners and freshman that ran in their first race, additionally the first at 6000 meters for most.  For the team to progress we must become better at running as a pack and grouping it up front throughout the whole race.

MEN'S RACE

The men's race started out much the same with a crew of LCSC runners at the front.  Things spread out as the race went on with Freshman Aaron Galbraith leading the team finishing 2nd overall, with a chance to win, however was misdirected at mile 3.5 while leading and couldn't make up the lost ground.  Anton came on strong at the end to finish 5th overall, followed by Matt at 9th.  Jarrett and James rounded out the top 5 at 17th and 18th.  Rounding it out for the team was Nate (22nd), Trevor (27th), and Johnny at 38th.  The men also rana  team time faster this year compared to last (140:54 vs 142:05).  Much like the women's team if the men want to have a shot at returning to nationals we will need to group it closer together at the front.

Upcoming - This week we are heading to Nampa for NNU's invite.  The men will run 6000m and the women 4000m.
