Cross Country
Recruits Lindsey Szybura
1-3-06
Head Coach Mike
Collins, after recruiting an Idaho native in
Kyli Astle last month, looks back to Washington
to strengthen the women’s program. Lindsey
Szybura, currently a senior at Orting High
School, has recently signed a letter of intend
to attend and run for LCSC next fall. Syzbura is
similar to the newly recruited Kyli Astle in the
fact that she is teeming with running ability,
but has somewhat limited running experience.
This past season, as a senior, was Szybura’s
first as a runner, yet Coach Collins is
confident she’ll be a great addition to the
program. “In just her first season of running
she has already accomplished a lot. She finished
2nd in her district meet then subsequently 9th
in the State 2A championships. Her PR's are
already putting her in a position to be one of
my top runners next year (e.g. she holds a 5K PR
of 19:22).”
True to the reputation of the cross country
team, Szybura, a member of the National Honor
Society with a high school GPA of 3.7, excels
not only in sports, but also in the classroom.
Perhaps one thing that sets her apart from some
of the other recruits is her overwhelming desire
to attend LCSC. Collins on Szybura’s attitude
said, “Most importantly, she really wants to be
here. I don't think I have had a recruit that
has expressed as great a desire to be at LCSC,
both for school and running. Her enthusiasm is
amazing and we are looking forward to seeing her
run in Warrior Blue this fall.”
