Warrior Invite; Women dominate race, men finish second

Lewiston, ID-  Spectacular warm fall weather, along with gorgeous views of the snake river accommodated athletes in this year’s Warrior cross country invite.  Held at Hells Gate State park, teams from Spokane Falls Community College, Whitworth College, Flat Head Valley C.C and L-C alumni competed in the five and eight kilometer race.

The women kicked off the morning meet at 10:30 a.m., as the 15^th nationally ranked Warriors took control of their race early, never relinquishing the lead, and eventually finishing in the top four spots.  L-C was paced by Taryn Joyce-Mendive, who finished the race in a time of 18:31.00.  Rounding out the number 2, 3 and 4 slots were LCSC’s Darrah Hocum, April Homan, and Emily Perkins.  As a team, L-C scored a combined 18 points, followed by Spokane Falls C.C.  with 59, Whitworth College with 77, and the alumni at 90 total points.

The men’s race started following the conclusion of the women, as Spokane Falls and L-C competed heavily at the front of the pack during their 8-kilometer competition.  Spokane Falls ended up on top with a team score of 24, followed by L-C at 33, and Whitworth at 85. 

Lewis-Clark State was paced by Ciprion Nitoi, who finished third overall with a time of 26:15.00

Both teams are idle next weekend, but head to Portland, Oregon on Saturday, November 5^th as they compete in the NAIA regional championships. With the men currently ranked 26^th in the country, their performance at the regional meet will determine if they earn a birth to the NAIA national championships.
