All-around Athlete
of Idaho will Run for LCSC
12/16/05
Lewis-Clark State
College’s nationally ranked Cross Country program is
busy recruiting for the 2006 season. To add to the
December recruitment of Brett Fowler, Coach Collins
is pleased to announce that Kyli Astle of Shoshone,
Idaho has signed a letter of intent to run for the
women’s team. Although she won the state two-mile
championship, took second in the one-mile, and third
in the 800 her sophomore year, Astle’s athletic
accomplishments range far from just the realms of
running. Currently a senior at Shoshone High School,
Astle is a four-year starter in both volleyball and
basketball. She has been a part of two consecutive
state volleyball championships, and this spring her
basketball team is picked as the favorite to take
the state title.
Astle, busy winning state titles in other sports,
has somewhat limited running experience, but still
excels at it and sees it as her true passion.
Because of an ACL injury during her junior year she
was unable to defend her two-mile state title, but
this spring Astle is back and expected to give
another strong competitive performance.
Along with a 3.9 GPA and apparent athletic ability,
competitiveness is one of the reasons for Coach
Collins’ interest in her, “…we believe she may be
one of the biggest diamonds in the rough out of the
state in a long time. One of the big things I look
for is competitiveness, and this girl has it. She
likes to win and works extremely hard to put herself
in a position to do so.” If she likes to win she has
joined the right team, as the accomplished Warrior
Cross Country program is once again setting
themselves up for a successful season.
