At Victoria, British Columbia, Lewis-Clark State's Jeff Thoeny is in first place after the first day at the University of Victoria Invitational, and the Warrior men and women both staked out third-place spots in the team rankings.
Thoeny shot rounds of 71 and 67 for a total of 138, putting L-C third out of 14 teams.
Nicole Olson is in second place in the women's division, with a score of 79. The women only shot 18 holes. The Warrior women are in third in a field of nine teams.
"We scored much better than we expected," L-C coach Paul Thompson said. "The course was set up pretty tough, and it was raining 25 to 30 percent of the time."
Thompson added if his golfers shoot well today, they have a shot at winning the tournament, the last for the Warriors until February.
