Women’s Golf Receives Invite to
Nationals; Men Prepare for Strong Showing The 2004-05 season turned out well for the women’s golf team, as they finished number two in the Frontier Conference, fourth out of the Region I tournament, and maintained a top 25 national ranking for the duration of the season. The women enter the 11th annual NAIA national golf tournament ranked 18th, and make the trip as a team for only the second time in the history of the program, both times under the direction of head coach Paul Thompson. The two years the girls have qualified, 2003 and 2005, happen to be the same two years Thompson has been named conference coach of the year (2003, 2005). The Warrior men’s team will also be making the trip to nationals for only the second time in the history of the program, as they earned an automatic bid by winning the Region I tournament in Moscow, ID on April 25-26th. The men are competing the week of May 24-27th, in Olathe Kansas. Winners of the Frontier Conference, the Warriors enter the National Tournament ranked 17th, and with the quality play the men have shown all year, they could make an impressive showing in this years tournament. “I feel we have a good chance of finishing high in the tournament,” said Coach Thompson. “The strength of this men’s team is depth. Earlier in the year our number 5 player was a medal winner, so that goes to show you that our number 1 through 5 players are equally balanced.” Follow the Warrior golf team’s pursuit of an NAIA National Championship at www.lcsc.edu/athletics. |
