2004-2005 Golf Season Outlook
The 2004-2005 men’s and women’s golf teams come into the season with high hopes of qualifying the national tournament in late spring. With both programs just missing the national tournament last year the warriors will be hungry to get to the next level. The combination of strong returning starters from the men’s team, along with a talented freshmen class on the women’s side, lead for a potentially strong team.
Returning for men are 2003-2004 1st team all-conference selections Marc Vedder from Twin Falls, Idaho and Jeff Smith from Coeurdalene, Idaho. The lone senior on the men’s team in redshirt senior Aaron Curtis from Twin Falls, Idaho. We expect to see Aaron compete for conference medalist honors this season. Also new to the team are Shawn Krahling from Walla Walla Community College and Jeff Thoeny a transfer from Boise State and Colin Pidgeon from Mesa Community College. To round out the men’s roster are three returning players from last years team Jon Warren, Ross Button and Eric Titus.
The women’s team will be trying to replace 2003-2004 Frontier Conference Player of the year and NAIA All- American Ilka Loubser who has transferred to Murray State a Division 1 School in Kentucky. Ilka’s leadership and talent will be missed and Warrior Athletics wishes her the best of luck in the future.
To pick up the missing pieces Coach Thompson and Coach Tilden have added freshmen Samara Kluever Oconomowoc, Wisconsin , Nikki Olson Boise, Idaho, Katie Fuqua Cheney, Washington, Chantelle Beveridge Vancouver, BC, Emily Maag Colestrip, Montana, Renee Griffus Newport, Washington and Christine Truesdale Wilder, Idaho to the the roster.
The lone returning Senior is Christina Bernicki who was a 2nd team all-conference selection last year. The team will rely heavily on Christina this year to lead a young women’s team into competition.
The women also have some returning players from last years team they are Kara Player from Australia, Krista Solem and Krichelle Riedle from Lewiston, Idaho and Randi Farnsworth from Twin Falls, Idaho who redshirted last year. Julie Ozuna a transfer from Idaho State University and Ashley Martin from Clarkston, Washington a transfer from Walla Walla Community College have joined the team. Martin will redshirt this season in order to bring her game to the next level.
The warriors will be trying to unseat Conference rival Rocky Mountain College who won both the Men’s and Women’s Conference Titles Last year. The season begins on September 13th and 14th. The schedule for the upcoming season can be found on the website.
