LCSC men's golf team wins FC crown

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah -- Despite finishing second in the final Frontier Conference tournament of the season, the Lewis-Clark State College men's golf team captured the conference's overall title for the second straight year and the third time in four years on Tuesday. 

The Warriors were edged by Rocky Mountain on the final 18 holes Tuesday in Westminster's portion of the 54-hole conference tournament, which was played at Wing Point Golf Course. Rocky Mountain fired a team score of 284 on the final 18 holes, to LCSC's 299, which gave Rocky Mountain a 884 total to LCSC's 886. That was the final round of the fifth and final regular-season conference tournament. 

The team scores from all five conference tournaments are used to determine the conference champion and LCSC wound up at 4,434, while Rocky Mountain overtook Montana Tech to finish second, but was more than 40 shots behind LCSC. 

On the women's side, Rocky Mountain held off LCSC for both the Westminster and overall conference title. Rocky shot a final round of 318 for a 955 total, while LCSC had a round of 324 for a 966 total. Rocky finished overal at 4,155 strokes, compared to 4,189 strokes for LCSC. 

Joey Lovell continued his strong play for LCSC on Tuesday with a 2-under-par 70, which gave him a 2-under-par 214 for the tournament, which earned him first place. Teammate Jeff Ray carded a 74. 

On the women's side Juanita Villa shot the Warriors' best round on Tuesday with a 75 and tied teammate Cortney Shrout with a team-best 236 score for the 54 holes. 

Both Warrior teams will be back in action next Monday for the Region I Tournament, which will be held at Christian Lake, British Columbia. The tournament features 36 holes on Monday and another 18 on Tuesday and serves as a qualifier for the NAIA national tournament.

Medalist -- Joey Lovell, LCSC, 71-73-70--214.

Other LCSC scores -- Jeff Ray 74--221, Patrick Casabonne 75--226, Nik Arrenbrecht 73-72-80--225, Chris Jarrett 80--235. 

WOMEN

Top two teams -- 1, Rocky Mountain 318--955. 2, LCSC 324--966.

Medalist -- Rachel Warren, RMC, 78-79-71-228.
