– Despite shaving 14 strokes off
its opening day score, the
Lewis-Clark State College
women’s golf team could only
climb one spot to No. 14 after
the second day of the NAIA
Women’s Golf Championships on
Tuesday.
The
Warriors shot a team score of
34-over-par during the second 18
holes of competition, which is
being held at the Lake San
Marcos Country Club.
LCSC, which shot an opening
round of 48-over-par, stood 15th
after the initial 18 holes. LCSC
has a team scored of 658, which
puts them three shots behind
Concordia, which is at No. 13.
LCSC also is just 15 strokes out
of being in the top 10.
Defending champion Oklahoma City
and the University of British
Columbia are tied for first at
624. while fellow Frontier
Conference competitor Rocky
Mountain is third at 631.
Samara Kluever, a junior from
Oconomowac, Wisc., shot the
Warriors’ best round of the day
with a 6-over-par 78 for a
two-day total of 161, which
leaves her tied for 34th
overall. Senior Kara Player had
an 80 for a 166 total, while
Juanita Villa and Chantelle
Beveridge both shot 82s. Cortney
Shrout, who had LCSC’s top round
on the first day with an 82, had
an 84. Both Player and Shrout
are at 166, while Villa is at
167 and Beveridge at 171.
The
tournament continues on
Wednesday and then wraps up on
Thursday with 18 holes each day.
LCSC is still hoping to improve
on last year’s seventh-place
finish.
