LCSC’s Norris and Kneen earn Freshman of the Year honors

Lewis-Clark State College’s Alana Norris and Chris Kneen were named Freshman of the Year golfers in the Frontier Conference, while four Warriors earned first-team all-Frontier Conference honors, league officials announced Monday. 

Norris and Kneen were regular varsity players this season and Kneen even was LCSC’s top finisher at a tournament earlier this year at the Clarkston Golf and Country Club. Kneen is from the Isle of Man in the British Isles and will be one of the top returners for the men’s team next season. 

Norris, who is from Nanaimo, British Columbia, was consistently one of the team’s top four scorers at each tournament this year. 

Juanita Villa, a junior from Medelin, Columbia, and Cortney Shrout, a sophomore from Okanogan, Wash., were both selected first-team all-Frontier Conference on the women’s side. Villa was the conference Player of the Year last season but finished second to Rocky Mountain’s Rachel Warren this year. 

Rocky Mountain and LCSC dominated the women’s all-conference teams. Rocky had three players named to the first team, while LCSC had two. On the second team, LCSC had three players – Norris, senior Samara Kluever, and sophomore Sue James – while Rocky had the other two players.

On the men’s side, Kneen and senior Jeff Ray were selected to the first team, joining two players from Rocky and another from Montana Tech. LCSC junior Nic Arrenbrecht was named to the second team.
