Sep. 28-29 (Billings, Montana)

Again this week we headed back to wonderful Montana.  As we dreaded the 13 hour bus ride to Billings, MT we were ready to take Rocky on once again on their home course.  As we arrived we found that we were going to have very good weather and the greens, for the first time in 3 weeks, we going to be good.  As we started out our first round we found the course to fairly easy and knew we would be shooting good rounds.  After the first round, we trailed rocky by only one stroke.  For playing rocky on their home course we felt that this would be a good time to win.  In the second round we didn’t play as well and lost by 7 strokes leaving us 8 down for the tournament and 15 down for conference.  After heading back to the hotel and talking about what we could do we were very anxious to play the 3rd round.  As we started out on Monday morning, we found that this could be the tournament victory at our grasp.  As the round continued we fell off a bit and we ended losing by 6 in the final round.  This puts us down by 21 heading into the spring conference tournament at home at Lewiston Golf and Country Club.  I feel as though the team played very well shooting some great scores and keeping it pretty consistent.  I know that if we put in some hard work in the off season, we will come out victorious. We still have 2 tournaments left to play this fall, but they don’t count toward conference so we will use them to concentrate on improving and getting some more experience.

This past weekend the Men’s and Ladies Golf team Participated in the Rocky Mountain tournament in Billings, Montana. This was the third Tournament on the schedule and a tournament we knew we could win. The week prior, the Men’s golf team had successfully won Carroll colleges invite and we were on the prowl for another win. The Coaches had decided to try and get a practice round in before the tournament so we left Friday afternoon and headed up to Coeur’delane and through to Missoula, where we spent the night. The following morning we shipped out early under deep blue skies and reached our intended destination with enough time to get in some frisbee action before the practice round. In previous tournaments we had barely enough time to venture round the golf course on a golf cart, this time we had ample time to check yardages and figure out key scoring holes.

The practice round was very eventful with some great scores having been shot. Chris Kneen shot a remarkable sixty three while the rest of the team came in with high sixties and even par. Our mood was set and we knew that this was going to be our tournament even though the home team is known to be very strong on their golf course.

Tournament day (Sunday) was different to the previous tournaments because although it was cold, it was not frightfully cold and the day’s temperature was set in the mid eighties with a slight breeze. Oddly enough we encountered a third week of great big blue skies filled with jet vapors and no signs of snow or rain, it was kind of weird actually.

The first round was close between the LC warrior men  and Montana tech. there was only one shot separating the two teams and after round two there was only still one shot separating the teams, LC being in the lead. Our Host team-Rocky mountain put on spurts of good golf but not enough to cause concern for the Warrior men. The days play had been very competitive and possibly more so than we had anticipated. The strategy was quite clear Sunday night and the annual team meeting had been put on hold, the men relaxed and got prepared for Monday morning, all we wanted to do was win and we knew how. Having said all that, Montana tech was valiant in their effort but it was not enough. The LC warrior men’s team gained eight more shots on Montana Tech on Monday and took the out right lead for this semester in our region.

With two more tournaments left this semester, I would say that the LC warriors are confident in gaining another win this season.
