MOBILE, Ala. – The
Lewis-Clark State
College men’s tennis
team found out how tough
two-time defending
champion
Auburn-Montgomery can be
and fell to the Senators
6-0 in the second round
of the 57th annual NAIA
Men’s Tennis National
Championships at the
Mobile Tennis Center.
Auburn-Montgomery won
the first six contests
and was leading in the
remaining three when the
match was stopped
because the Senators had
clinched the win.
Auburn-Montgomery, the
top seed in the
tournament, started by
winning the three
doubles matches with the
closest being 8-4. The
Senators continued to
roll in singles play and
won three matches in
straight sets, while
leading 5-0, 3-0 and 4-0
in the second set of the
three uncompleted
matches.
LCSC’s top performance
came from Jonathan
Berhane, who won three
games in his opening set
against Javier Redondo
in the No. 3 singles
match.
The Warriors end the
season at 13-11 overall
and ranked No. 19 in the
NAIA.. The team loses
one senior from this
squad in Ali Faris, who
is from Male, The
Maldives.
