LCSC women’s tennis team
falls at nationals

Ala. – The Lewis-Clark
State College women’s
tennis team lost a pair
of three-set matches in
singles play and fell to
Indiana Wesleyan 5-4 in
the opening round of the
28th annual NAIA Tennis
National Championships
at the Mobile Tennis
Center on Monday.
The loss eliminated the
Warriors from the
tournament, while
Indiana Wesleyan
advances to meet No. 2
seed Fresno Pacific in
the second round on
Tuesday.
The Warriors won two of
the three doubles
matches against Indiana
Wesleyan as Jamie Chan
(shown left) and Mei
Fong teamed up for a 9-7
win, while Shefat
Baishakhi and Kaylan
Crane captured an 8-2
win.
In singles play,
however, Indiana Wesley
won four of the six
matches to claim the
win. Baishakhi and Chan,
played No. 1 and No. 2
singles, respectively,
both rolled to
victories. Baishakhi
defeated Sara Bauss 6-3,
6-3, while Chan stopped
Julie Hedgebeth 6-0,
6-1.
The Warriors, however,
lost the other four
singles matches to
finish the season 9-9
overall. Alyson Peck and
Megan Smedley both lost
in three sets, while
Crane lost a 7-6
tiebreaker in her first
set.
Crane is the lone senior
on the team.
