MOBILE, Ala. -- The Lewis-Clark State women's tennis team smacked into a familiar obstacle, as the Warriors lost to Point Loma Nazarene in the second round of the NAIA national tournament Tuesday.
The final score was 5-2. Two singles matches were called off before they were finished once PLNU reached five wins, thus clinching the victory.
No LCSC team has advanced past the second round of this tournament.
"The monkey is still on our back for one more year," Warriors coach Kai Fong said. "It was another step in the right direction, to be at nationals again. But it is a bit disappointing."
Although the Warriors lost all three doubles contests, Fong said he was confidant heading into singles play. And L-C got off to strong starts in the first set of those matches.
But "we just faded in some of the second sets," Fong said.
Pei Yuin Keng beat Holli Hargrave 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. But Keng and Hephzibah Segura lost in their doubles match -- Keng's first setback to an NAIA foe this season.
The Warriors also got a victory from Maria Resende in singles play.
