Grandos signs
with Warrior women’s cross country team
1-30-08
The
Lewis-Clark State College women’s cross
country program has signed its first recruit
for the fall in Melissa Grandos, who is a
senior at South Hills High School in Covina,
Calif., Warrior coach Mike Collins announced
Wednesday.
“We
are excited about having Melissa in our
program,” Collins says. “She comes form a
very large high school outside of Los
Angeles where the competition level is very
high, so she knows the pressure of having
high expectations of a team and individuals
and has responded well throughout her high
school career to these types of pressures.
She has won multiple all-league honors as
well as being her team’s captain.”
Collins says Grandos has been timed in 18
minutes, 50 seconds for a 3-mile cross
country run, and has posted track times of
2:28 in the 800, 5:35 in the 1,600 and 11:52
in the 3,200, with her senior year still
ahead of her.
Collins says Grandos also is an excellent
student with a GPA of better than 3.20. She
plans to study Pre-Law while at LCSC.
“She
is the first to sign for next year and we
anticipate a number more of new runners to
officially sign in the very near future,”
Collins says.
LCSC
finished 19th at the national meet last
season and lost three seniors from the
squad.
