Quincy’s Young becomes fifth LCSC women’s cross country recruit

2-12-08

Whitlee Young from Quincy High School in Washington has become the fifth runner to sign with the Lewis-Clark State College cross country team in the past two weeks, Warrior coach Mike Collins announced on Tuesday.

Young is part of one of the strongest recruiting classes to come to LCSC, which sent the women’s team to the NAIA national meet for seven consecutive years and finished at No. 19 at last year’s meet.

“Whitlee is very motivated to run well and improve,” Collins says.  “She is of a mold that we have historically built our program with over the years.  She is from a smaller high school and really only gets good competition in bigger meets.  We have no doubt that once she is put in an environment with other quality runners on a daily basis she will make huge strides in her performance.”

Young holds the Quincy High records in both the 1,600 and 3,200 meters, and still has her senior track season left.

“Her personality will fit in well too as she is very energetic and fun to be around,” Collins says.  “No doubt that she will be a big part of the family concept we have with our team.  She has been her teams cross country captain all four years of high school, was voted outstanding female athlete at UW Olympic Peaks camp this past summer.  She is also involved in National Honor Society, FFA and Key club.  We are excited to add Whitlee into our program.”
