Had an outstanding year
in both cross country
and track…he was LCSC’s
top finisher in every
cross country meet he
competed in…finished
sixth in the Eric
Anderson Invite in his
first meet, and then
second in the Charles
Bowles Invitational at
Willamette…he was then
second in the Warrior
Invite and won the title
at the Frontier
Conference meet, which
helped the Warriors
claim the team title for
the fourth year in a
row…he capped the year
by finishing 20th at the
national meet, which is
the second-best finish
by a Warrior male runner
in program history…in
track, Marks won the
3,000-meter race at the
Washington State
University Open and
qualified for the NAIA
national indoor meet…at
nationals, he finished
third in his semifinal
heat and had the
third-fastest time in a
school-record
8:28.73…wound up 10th in
the finals…in the
outdoor season, he
qualified for nationals
in the 1,500, 5,000 and
10,000, but the week
prior to the meet, he
suffered a broken heel
bone and was unable to
compete.
SOPHOMORE:
Marks finished first in
the first two races of
the season…broke the 6k
course record by 19
seconds (19:07) en route
to victory at the
Whitman Invitational…won
Erik Anderson
Invitational with a time
of 25:53.70, helping the
team to its second
consecutive win…broke 8k
school record with a
personal-best time of
24:16 at the Charles
Bowles Invitational,
earning a fifth place
finish…finished 12th
overall at the Inland
Northwest Cross Country
Challenge and seventh
overall at the LCSC
Invite…returned from
injury to compete at the
NAIA National
Championships, where he
finished 161st overall
in 27:37…in outdoor
track, qualified for
NAIA Nationals in the
5,000m with a
personal-best time
of14:37.13, which stands
as a LC record-best and
No. 7 on the NAIA
National list…earned
fourth in 5000m at NAIA
Nationals…became 11th
Warrior to receive
All-American
honors…redshirted his
freshman season at the
University of Portland.
HIGH SCHOOL:
As a senior in cross
country at Lakeridge
High School, Marks won
six of his nine races
and ended up finishing
12th in the Class 6A
state championship race;
a huge leap from his
junior year where he was
No. 79…Lettered four
years in track and three
years in cross
country…Three Rivers
League district
champion...in track as a
senior, he finished
fifth at the 6A state
track championships in
the 1,500 meters in a
time of 4:00.75 and
second in the 3,000 with
a time of 8:37.59 (more
than 10 seconds faster
than the LCSC school
record at the time)…that
race also was the only
3,000 run he didn’t win
that year…set two meet
records in the 3K that
season….placed sixth in
the state meet in the
3,000 as a sophomore and
placed 12th
in the state in cross
country at the 2008
meet…qualified for the
BroderClash.
