Warriors clip Western in OT

DILLON, Mont. -- In a game that had no bearing on their postseason status,
the Lewis-Clark State men played like their season were on the line.
Led by Danny Allen's 32-point eruption, the Warriors collected an 84-82
overtime triumph over Montana-Western on Saturday night in Frontier
Conference play.
L-C ends the regular season at 22-8 and 10-4. The Warriors will be the
third seed in the conference tournament at Butte, and face No. 6 Montana
State-Northern on Thursday at 1 p.m. PST.
After losing to Montana Tech the night before, the Warriors knew they
were locked into the third seed -- regardless of the outcome of this game.
"There were a lot of people who said, 'You're already in third. What are
you playing for?' " L-C coach George Pfeifer said. "In this game, we
couldn't dwell on our past. We had to dwell on the present."
Allen planted a 3-pointer with 13 seconds left in regulation to tie the
game. The Bulldogs' Matt Luedtke then missed a potential game-winning shot.
In overtime, UMW was up by five with 1:09 remaining. But LCSC answered
with an Allen 3-pointer and a three-point play by Martin Brothers.
Meanwhile, the Warriors stopped the potent Bulldog offense on two crucial
possessions.
"Being down five with 1:09 to go and then coming back, we couldn't ask
for a better recipe for mentality for this coming weekend," Pfeifer said.
Allen, who made 6 of 8 tries from 3-point range, also collected five
assists and six rebounds. John Moore registered 17 points while Brothers
posted 11 points and nine boards.
Joey Ray had planned to sit this game out with more soreness in his foot.
But when L-C landed in foul trouble in the first half, the senior guard
played three minutes and buried a 3-pointer. "That was a huge lift," Pfeifer
said.
LCSC guard Spencer Bishop once again pestered Matt Luedtke, the Bulldogs'
top scorer. Luedtke did score 20 points, but needed 21 shots to reach that
total.
Carroll and Westminster finished as co-champions of the FC. They will
have a coin toss to determine the top seed in the tournament, Pfeifer said.
